Have you ever wanted to sail the ocean blue with the only sounds, the wind in the sails? Or wondered what the real story was behind the Salem Witch Hunts? Or wished to watch whales and dolphins play in the sea? Then Tall Ships, Witches & Whales is just the trip for you! We’ll start our two week adventure in Mystic, Connecticut, a long time seaport for tall ships. After a welcome dinner at the campground we’ll spend a day at Mystic Seaport, a living museum of early sea life. You may hear chantey singing and see demonstrations of maritime trades of the past. While in Mystic, you may want to just walk the streets where the sea captains lived or visit the Coast Guard Academy in New London. The USS Nautilus, a nuclear submarine, is also in New London. From sail to nuclear, you’ll not have trouble finding adventures in Mystic. Our next two stop will bee Boston & Gloucester, Massachusetts. A Cape Cod Canal Cruise is in the works as well as a trip to Martha’s Vineyard. If time allows we will include a trip to Provincetown. While in Gloucester, we will visit the Gloucester House and a whale watching cruise out of Massachusetts Bay. Upon returning, we will be treated to a fabulous meal at the Gloucester House. A bus tour to Boston with all its history will surely be a day to remember. Bunker Hill, the Old North Church, Paul Revere’s House, Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market are just a few of the points on our visit to the “Cradle of Liberty”. While in the Gloucester area, we will take time to visit Salem where Halloween is always in fashion. Salem is also the home of the House of Seven Gables. Next a short drive up the coast to Maine and a campground at Boothbay. The Bath, Wiscasset, Boothbay area is a mecca for sailing, lobsters and shopping. One day we will include a shopping trip to L.L. Bean, then on to Bath to the Marine Museum. Free time can be spent in quaint Boothbay or any of the other little fishing villages along the coast. On up scenic Route #1 is our last stop, beautiful Bar Harbor, Maine. The full day in Bar Harbor will be busy. We will start with a bus tour of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. We will spend some time in Bar Harbor doing some shopping and sight-seeing before heading back to the campground. That evening we will gather for our farewell dinner. The last morning we will say our final farewells and recap a wonderful, scenic trip featuring Tall Ships, Witches & Whales!
