Todays tour is an opportunity to relax, enjoy good food, wine and wonderful scenery. This delicious journey through the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail will take us to the Blue Sky Vineyard for a taste of Tuscany, followed by a family-style fried chicken meal at the Giant City State Park Lodge. Giant City State Park was dedicated in 1927 and covered 1,100 acres of land. The park has grown in size and now measures more than 4,000 acres. It has a variety of unique natural features such as sandstone bluffs, rock formations, waterfalls, and beautiful woodlands. Centuries of geological movements have created Giant Citys unique landscape and each year more than one million people visit this state park. We will have time to tour this beautiful park before we head to the Flamm Orchards for our dessert, fresh peach cobbler and ice cream at their Fruits and Cream Stand. We will drive to Bald Knob Cross. This monument was completed in 1963, with the generous contributions of thousands of people from the United States and other countries. As a national symbol of faith in God, the Cross has been erected to help strengthen the spiritual fiber of America. The Cross stands 111 feet tall, making it the largest Christian symbolic monument in America. When illuminated at night, it can be seen over on area of 7,500 square miles. Bald Knob Mountain rises more than 700 feet above the valley below and is surrounded by the rugged scenic beauty of the Shawnee National Forest. Each year, the thousands who visit Bald Knob Mountain express wonder at the magnificence of the setting. We will then continue on to Alto Winery in Alto Pass for a tour and tasting. This family owned winery and vineyard is located in the foothills of the beautiful Shawnee National Forest. Since their first vintage in 1988, the Renzaglia Family wines have won numerous medals in National and International wine competitions. They take great pride in growing high quality grapes and producing award winning wines.
